Overview

The goals of the Humoral Immunology Laboratory are to develop a novel class of biomarkers in people with developmental disabilities that can be used to identify early disease and improve patient care.

Research Projects

Current projects in the laboratory are addressing the following:

  • Dementia of the Alzheimer type in aging people who have Down syndrome: Our overall goal is to develop laboratory tests or biomarkers using body fluids to predict early signs of dementia in people with Down syndrome age 35 and older, to track the disease course, and to document the response to treatment.
  • Laboratory biomarkers to aid the diagnosis of autism: We are working to develop biomarkers to distinguish Fragile X syndrome from other developmental disorders, and to track the course of illness.
